song lyrics - NEONjesusMAN

1. Troubling  (Andy Tabb)

the winding road the dusty shoes
too many nights too much booze
methamphetamines in latrine
takes you outta the in-between
but never far enough to hide the truth

i hear the howlin wind it do blow
think of you the tears will flow
did we ever have a future?
short trip up north foreshadow pictureshow
did we listen to the preacher?

troubling as it may be
wind up your thoughts on this one
hang 'em on an old beam
in the basement of your dreams

stuck up on this narrow ledge
one wrong move is certain death
no hold can i find
all these words tower like an edifice
i buckle from the weight of it
and it reaches to the sky

troubling as it may be
wind up your thoughts on this one
hang 'em on an old beam
in the basement of your dreams
time to pray
for some new romance

2. Casey's Redemption Part 1: Dozen Roses  (Andy Tabb)

a dozen roses for my love
a dozen days with no reply
to hear your voice would be enough
so i tell myself a lie

i tell myself i'm on your mind
wait another day
for some kind of sign

i have patience for my love
tenderness in vast supply
another day I cannot take
never moving paralyzed

i tell myself I'm on your mind
wait another day
for some kind of sign

and i know it doesnt matter what i do or what i say
somebody come to help me take these thoughts away
i dont have time any more
spend it all fighting with myself like its a war
and im starting to realize now its gonna be too late
i got to let it all go somehow
but I don't know how
such a part of me now

3. Asphalt Angels   (Moira Smiley, Andy Tabb)

where are my asphalt angels now? my crossroads have come and gone
i traded my soul for a music-box singalong
that’s why I serenade
gone away
rolls away

give me reasons one two three
why a wounded soldier keeps on?
with glory frozen that motionless day
parade parade parade
gone away
rolls away

we come in believing we leave confused
believing we’re useful whenever we’re used

why is that mocking bird so near
who mocks every note I sing?
my voice falters now while hers calls so clear
and it no longer means anything
gone away
rolls away

when motion’s perpetual some fall behind
some just leave shadows of themselves behind

where is my long-haired savior now
on a pulpit of yellow clay?
i hear the lovesick sermon call
but it gives me no reason to pray
gone away
rolls way

4. Intro To Trickster (instrumental)

5. NEONjesusMAN  (Carol S. Tabb, Andy Tabb)

you're a traveling show
jesus man
hair all in neon
rings in navel and nose

you hand me a paper
words red as blood
nails blue and green
yellow with nicotene

i run for my car
and you follow me home
you sit at my table
and climb in my dreams

kaleidoscope scenes
full of thunder and scream
everyone's cryin
NEONjesusMAN
take them away
take them away

neon jesus man
the Lord will save us mouth like a cave
neon jesus man
                        salvation you scream
take them away

i drink whiskey to keep you away
but you stay and you stay and you stay
i am a kite and you hold the string
and you sing and you sing and you sing

spoken word:
high reach high you take what you can you only get one time around and that's it
but there's a look on you're face you wanna stay in the race 'cause the dogs are chompin  and you're beatin feet cross a white plains desert the only way you know you can

6. The Trickster (Andy Tabb

hows it goin c hidin' in that tree
betcha got somethin' to say
so ya jump down come round l think you're insane
as if you were some kind of preacher
your eyes are buzzin' and your hands are goin'
and i know you got somethin' to say
but I can't make it out I can't make it out
i can't make out all the talkin you speak in
i can't make out all the talkin you speak in
from the rit-tit-tat droplets of rain

hows it goin c behind the smokescreen
clouds are gettin' darker each day
'cause your props slam boom bang sometimes fall down
sometimes even get in your way
your mind is smokin like a pressure cooker cookin'
and i know you got somethin to say
but i can't keep up I can't keep up
i can't keep up with the walkin you step in
i can't keep up with the walkin you step in
through the rit-tit-tat droplets of rain

hows it goin c now that your spirit's free
no more reason to be afraid
cause your only crime was a vision sublime
i think start to see your way
cause it rings in true
every day i endure
how life is such a bid on a race
that you just won't know, you just won't know
you just wont know till it washes away
with the rit-tit-tat droplets of rain

7. I kiss the afternoon (from a poem by Carol S. Tabb)

I kiss the afternoon as I watch you walk in the wild grasses
behind the house while the wind teases a joyous sundance
in your hair

I am grateful I have my camera I trip the shutter and it swallows a
fragment of time so that I may listen to the echo and weep when
I am old and you are grown

8. Fields (Instrumental)

9. Rodeo  (Andy Tabb)

sizzlin heat colorado sun thunderstorms pass through
not long to stay they say their piece and move
then the sky opens up to let the sun beat down
on all the cowpokes and the pony tail girls gathered in this small town

an eight year old boy moves through a sea of blue jeans silver buckles
strong men with coiled ropes and leather to shield white knuckles
he looks to find his dad and grandaddy gettin ready for their run
climbs on a fence with a blade of grass and waits for the starting gun

boy sees grandpa shake his knee 'cause it acts up time and again
but i betcha wouldn't know if hadn't told ya cause he doesnt let it get to him
dad and grandpa saddle up and mount move inside the gate
daddy throws a quick nod to his son

now the gun goes off the gate swings wide man and animal fly through the dust
they're up to speed so fast you'd think somethin's gonna bust
the young boy finds it hard to make any sense of all the commotion
seein' his father in the middle of it stirs a well of emotion

when the timing clock is stopped and the crowd lets out a cheer
the two proud men ride on in and the dust begins to clear
the eight year old boy watches the fathers of his clan
and he dreams someday to be a man
just like them
in the rodeo

Track 10. The Family (Instrumental)

Track 11. Shades of Grey (Andy Tabb)

kittens feet
and gommy's shawl
and everything else soft
the light hair on the high bone
of your cheek

maple trees
when autumn leaves
their branches
stripped of life
begging passage from shadow into light

these are the things that i dream about tonight
as i reside in my usual shades of grey
the softness fades away when i think about what
might come to happen if i ever aim to say those
words to you

many moons before the day i first laid eyes on you
how i dreamed to have someone to hold so dear
in time we'd ruminate about how many things
conspired to put us on the path that leads us both here

i think about these things

if i say those words to you
will you turn away?
and if i say those words to you
will you go away?
and leave me in my shades of grey?

these are things that i dream about tonight as i reside
in my usual shades of grey
as I reside in my usual shades of grey

12. Ben's Song (Instrumental)

13. Casey's Redemption Part 2: When The Sun Sank So Low  (Andy Tabb)

waiting out the night
expecting a sign

and the sun sank down on the hills beyond the frost covered mountains
and the crickets came out like they always did when the sun sank so low

does it matter what i do or what i say?
somebody come to help me take these thoughts away
i dont have time any more i spend it all fighting
with myself like its a war and i'm starting to realize now
its gonna be too late i've got to let it all go somehow
but i dont know how I don't know how
it's such a part of me now

Casey's Redemption Part 3: Do Something Now!  (Andy Tabb)

i'm waiting out the night, expecting a sign
does it matter what I do or what i say?
expecting the sign to not another night take
somebody come and help me take these thoughts away
and i'm starting to realize now its gonna be too late
I've got to let it all go somehow
if i don't do somethin and do something now!!
this is casey's redemption
such a long time ago

Casey's Redemption Part 4: Quest For Vision  (Andy Tabb)

in the hot summer is where it all began
back in the summer of '72
i was talking to a friend of mine
young boy on a quest for vision
telling him about a thing i saw
bit off more than he could chew
telling him that it blew my mind
                                                right around 3 am
right now its not hard to talk about
                                                someone got a bright idea
such a long time ago
Put an end to the injustice
young boy on a quest for vision
                                                of the destruction
bit off more than he could chew
                                                of the mother
                                                So he pledged his allegiance
Back in the summer of 72
standing on a hill of a thousand tires
when the heat showed up
                                                in the pale moonlight
such a fine time to go explore the night
he knew what he had to do
to go out chancing
                                                in the pale moonlight
and remember the toons
and the sun sinks down on the hills beyond
                                                and the crickets came out
the frost covered mountains
                                                like they always did
standing on a hill of a thousand tires
when the sun sank so low
he knew what he had to do
this is casey's redemption
